One of the robbers, Yunice Abbas, that robbed the reality star, Kim Kardashian West, of her jewelries in Paris four years ago has come out to say that “Everything went smoothly” for them during the robbery.
The 67-year-old man that’s now awaiting trial for the robbery stated have said it in a new book, where he explained the life history that led to his involvement in the robbery.
Yunice Abbas, who calls himself a “part-time crook,” was one of 12 people arrested for stealing jewelries after attacking Kardashian West in her luxury residence she rented during a Fashion Week in Paris.
The book titled “I Kidnapped Kim Kardashian” is a clear evidence, but Abbas has no intention to contest the charges at a trial that will hopefully begin this year.
The robbery was the biggest of an individual in France in two decades, and most of the pieces were never found, but police have recovered only a diamond-encrusted cross that dropped from Abbas while leaving the scene by bike.
“The jurors will have to decide, and in theory they’ll do it based only on what’s presented to them in court, but 50 stories have already been told about all this — I wanted to tell my truth, the one I’ve lived,” Abbas told AFP.
He was among the five men aged 60 to 72 described as ‘Grandpa robbers’ in the press for robbing Kardashian West in her apartment at around 2:30am on the night of October 3, 2016.
Kardashian in her statement told the police that the men, one of whom was wearing a jacket with police insignia, tied her up with plastic cables and adhesive tape, and placed her in the bathtub.
“It went fast, maybe five, six, seven minutes, from entry to exit, because everything went smoothly. Nobody interfered, the victim handed over the jewels without resistance,” Abbas said.
He recounted that he was the last to leave the scene, and he entered the street alone with fear as he found himself face to face with a police patrol.
He narrated: “I was shutting the door and they looked at me, so I gave a little sign, like a salute.
“They were just on one of their rounds, but obviously I was nervous. I looked calm, or at least I tried to, and it worked.”
Abbas stated that immediately afterward, he regretted taking part in the robbery, but unlucky as he was one of the 12 suspects arrested three months later.
From records, he had been in and out of jail in his life, and had spent 21 years behind bars. He said he had been ‘clean’ for nine years, before he was offered the Kardashian West heist at a time when he needed the money.
Still awaiting trial, he hopes that a jury will be lenient after he underwent heart surgery.
“My fear is returning to prison, my health is no longer good,” he said. “If you have an attack, you might have to wait hours before they can do anything, with catastrophic results,” he said.
