Nancy Isime: I Lost My Mother At Age 5, I Suffered Depression And Attempted Suicide

The popular TV host, Nancy Isime, had a time out with BBC pidgin, where she talked about her personal life, the problem facing women in the entertainment industry, and her mental health advocacy.

Nancy, who said that she lost her mother at the age of 5-year-old, explained that her childhood was not that smooth as she suffered depression, and attempted her first and only suicide. She continued that she was able to go through all that phases in life before getting here today.

Nancy stated that some people were lucky to be brought up, but on her side, she has to get matured in time since there was no one, after the death of her mother, and one will be exposed to things that one is not supposed to as a child.

The Edo state born actress said that she’s from Irrua in Esan Central of Edo state.

She explained that she started working as Usher, at the age of 17-year-old, for events and from there she started modelling, without the expectation that it would take her to stardom. She said that she was just saving her earnings to travel abroad for greener pasture.

What’s The Story Behind her hairstyle
She said she got frustrated of her plaited hair as she was unable to control the itching, so she had to have her hair cut, which led to her low-cut hairstyle. “Though, my father used to have my hair cut throughout my childhood, but I hated it then because I thought it made me look ugly,” she added.

How Do You See Ladies From Edo State
Nancy: It’s not only about Edo girls but about girls in the entertainment industry. We have a lot of work to do mentally, because people believe that every girl in the industry is like a prostitute especially if they see you flourishing and acquiring luxury without making any findings about the source of her wealth. Though, she said she’s guilty of it too.

Do Actress Also Talk About Mental Health
Nancy: I’m a mental health advocate, my fans on Instagram know very well that I preach about mental health. I believe in my meditation, do exercise as much as I can and just started my therapy. I have apps that help balance my mood considering my heavy schedule.

Advice For The Younger Ones
Nancy: Your mind is everything if you have the right mindset, you will get your life right.
