Fela Anikulapo Kuti has been nominated for the 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Abami Eda was nominated alongside international artistes like JAY-Z, Dionne Warwick, Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s, Iron Maiden, Chaka Khan, and Carole King.

Other nominees on the 16-man list that will be competing with Baba 70 are Mary J. Blige, Tina Turner, LL Cool J, Todd Rundgren, Kate Bush, the New York Dolls, Devo, and Rage Against the Machine.

This will be a posthumous honour to the late afrobeat legend, if inducted on his first-ever nomination.

The chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, John Skyles, said: “This remarkable ballot reflects the diversity and depth of the artists and music the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame celebrates.

“These Nominees have left an indelible impact on the sonic landscape of the world and influenced countless artists that have followed them.”

Voting started today and will end on the 30th April, 2021, and fans are expected to vote for up to five nominees daily on the Rock Halls website, while the winners of the 36th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be inducted in May 2021 at the event in Cleveland, Ohio .
