Burna Boy: It’s hypocritical that weeds is not legalized in Nigeria as everyone smokes

Popular Nigerian music star, Burna Boy has said that hypocrisy is why marijuana is yet to be legalized in Nigeria.

Marijuana (called weed) is still illegal in Nigeria, although this hasn’t stopped its consumption by some people in the country especially in the entertainment industry.

Burna Boy during a conversation with Home Grown Radio in Los Angeles, explained that everyone smokes weed in Nigeria but does not want to be seen with it.

The Grammy award-winning singer stated that misconception around weed is another reason it has not been legalized in Nigeria.

According to him, legalizing Marijuana is just a topic no one wants to talk about, yet many smoke it.

When asked about legalizing weed in Nigeria, Burna said: “It’s not a zero- tolerance. It’s like everybody does it, but no one wants to be the one that is seen talking about it. It’s just kind of hypocritical out there.

They try to make it seem like if you smoke weed you’ll just go mad in Nigeria. Everybody smokes it, it’s just a topic no one wants to talk about”.

No one wants to talk about it; everybody is cool. Nobody wants to make it a thing to advocate for legalization of weed,” he added.

Burna Boy noted that he loves visiting Los Angeles because weed is free, and one can get the best in the city.

Kanye West About To Change His Name

The famous American music star, Kanye West, has filed a document in the court asking the judge to legally change his name.

The music icon, who is dubbed for his third Donda listening party, has approached a court for the legal change of his name from Kanye West to YE.

Kanye West has gone by many names ever since becoming a famous artist, and now wants to be officially known as YE.

According to E! News, the rapper filed a request to change his name from Kanye Omari West to just “Ye” as obtained from court documents of August 11 citing personal reasons.

The hip-pop star first gave himself the nickname back in 2018, ahead of an appearance on Saturday Night Live show, when he tweeted: “The being formally known as Kanye West…I am YE.”

At the time, in an interview he said that the moniker held a deeper spiritual meaning.

“I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible, it means ‘you.’ So, I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye — just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are,” he said.

The album Ye came out months before his scheduled sharing of the Yahndi album, but was later shelved, while Kanye released ‘Jesus Is King’ in October 2019.

His teeming fans are still awaiting the release of his latest work, ‘Donda’, which was initially scheduled for release on July 23.

Kanye has been clever with the release of ‘Donda’, as he opted for hosting of listening parties across United States instead of releasing the album on streaming platforms.

He has so far hosted two listening parties in Atlanta and Georgia, and is scheduled to hold his third gathering in his hometown of Chicago on 26th August.

Chicago newscaster, Sarah Jindra, in her tweet said that the rapper is having his team build a life-size replica of his childhood home inside the Soldier Field stadium where he’s scheduled to perform.

From all indications, ‘Donda’ will be officially released on Friday, 27th August, for public enjoyment.

The British Comedian, Sean Lock, Is Dead

The famous British comedian, Sean Lock, has died of cancer at the age of 58 years.

His agent, Off the Kerb Productions, confirming the news of his death said: “Lock died at home surrounded by his family.

“Sean was one of Britain’s finest comedians, his boundless creativity, lightning wit and the absurdist brilliance of his work marked him out as a unique voice in British comedy. Sean was also a cherished husband and father to three children. Sean will be sorely missed by all that knew him.”

Lock, who was born in Woking, Surrey, left school in the early 1980s and began working on building sites. Thereafter, he developed skin cancer as a result of overexposure to the sun.

After a period of travelling, which remained one of his great passions, he started his career in comedy.

His first professional TV appearance was in 1993, where he starred alongside Rob Newman and David Baddiel on their TV show ‘Newman and Baddiel in Pieces’.

In 1998, Lock script-edited the BBC Two series ‘Is It Bill Bailey?’, and from there had his own show on BBC Radio 4 – ’15 Minutes of Misery’.

The show was later expanded into 15 Storeys High, and was set in a south London tower block which centred on a pessimistic lifeguard called Vince, played by Lock, and his flatmate Errol, played by Benedict Wong.

Lock was a regular team captain in 2005 on ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’, a role he held for 18 series.

Between the year 2006 and 2007, he hosted the Channel 4 series -TV Heaven and Telly Hell, where celebrities were invited to share their own selection of TV’s triumphs and tragedies.

Lock also appeared on panel shows like ‘Have I Got News for You’, QI and ‘They Think It’s All Over’. Also, in 2000 he won the laurel for best standup at the British Comedy awards.

Meanwhile, friends, colleagues and fans have paid their tributes to lock:-

Harry Hill said: “If you tell jokes for a living it’s hard to enjoy a comedian in the same way that a punter would, because you know all the tricks, you can see where a gag is going and often arrive at the punchline long before the comic telling it. Not so with Sean, that’s why we comics loved him. Often I had absolutely no idea where he was heading with a routine.”

Bill Bailey expressed: “Lock was as “brilliantly funny” off the stage as on, and that their daft conversations would leave him “helpless with laughter”. Bailey described him as a kind and generous man who was rigorous in his approach to writing comedy. In a writers’ room, said Bailey, Lock “spurred you on to find a better joke, a new line, the sweet spot of a perfect gag”. When the results worked, Lock would let out a “great gale of laughter.”

Lee Mack, also paid tribute to Lock: “I think the appeal of him as a viewer was that it felt like you were with your mate down the pub and he was making you laugh. I was one of the lucky few that was that mate down the pub and he was making me laugh. A lot. More than almost anyone I’ve ever known.

“Lock could talk about putting a budgie up his bum and yet levitate it into a hilarious artform.”

Diane Morgan wrote: “Lock was one of “the funniest people I’ve ever met” and described the 15 Storeys High show as “absolute genius”.”

Bob Dylan Sued For An Alleged 1965 Sexual Abuse

A lawsuit has been filed which alleges that Bob Dylan sexually abused a lady when she was 12 years in 1965.

The lady, who filed the lawsuit, was referred to, in court documents, as J.C.

She alleged that the incident happened over a period of six weeks between April and May 1965.

The lady claimed that Dylan used his influence as a musician to drug her before assaulting her sexually.

She stated: “Dylan exploited his status as a musician to provide J.C. with alcohol and drugs and sexually abuse her multiple times.”

The plaintiff also accused the 80-year-old musician of physically threatening the plaintiff then.

According to the complaint: “Dylan established a “connection” with JC to “lower her inhibitions with the object of sexually abusing her, which he did, coupled with the provision of drugs, alcohol and threats of physical violence, leaving her emotionally scarred and psychologically damaged to this day.”

The incident, according to the lawsuit, happened at the Dylan’s apartment in New York’s famous Chelsea Hotel,

The spokesperson for Dylan said: “The 56-year-old claim is untrue and will be vigorously defended.”

JC, who now lives in Greenwich, Connecticut, said that Dylan caused her severe psychological damage and emotional trauma.

She is now seeking unspecified damages plus a jury trial for allegations of assault, battery, false imprisonment and infliction of emotional distress, whose aftermath has led her to seek medical treatment on multiple occasions.

The lawsuit was filed on Friday a day before the window for filing claims under New York State’s Child Victims Act closed.

The act allowed victims of abuse to sue their suspected attackers irrespective of the age of the claims or whether the statute of limitations had passed.

In the same vein, Queen Elizabeth II’s second son, Prince Andrew, was last week sued for alleged sexual abise of late US financier, Jeffrey Epstein, using the act.

Dylan is widely considered to be the greatest singer-songwriter of all time. His most notable works include “Blowin’ In The Wind,” “The Times They Are a-Changin’,” and “Like A Rolling Stone.”

He came to limelight in New York in the early 1960s and has record of selling over 125 million records around the globe.

In 2016, Dylan won the Nobel Prize for Literature for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.

Last year, he released his 39th studio album, “Rough and Rowdy Ways,” – 58 years after the release of his first album.

And last month, Dylan won a lawsuit over the profits made last year from the $300m sale of his song catalogue to Universal Music as a Manhattan supreme court judge ruled in his favour.

Her words which she released, through her social media handle, in the form of open letter to the former president read: “Dear Former President Jacob Zuma. This isn’t the South Africa I remember and that millions of South African’s fought for. The South Africa that overcame Apartheid , showed the world that change was possible. Led the battle in the fight against HIV/AIDS and has weathered countless efforts to undermine the new South Africa.”

The letter is coming after a recent violent civil unrest and looting in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, orchestrated by Zuma’s sympathizers calling for his released from jail following his incarceration.

She continued: “I have watched how over the last few years you have protested your innocence at the allegations tabled against you of corruption and allowing mass State Capture.

“I have seen you got out of your way to avoid having to deal with these matters in court and avoid a Commission set up to investigate State Capture.

“You have talked of the rule of law and the South African constitution being something that should apply to everyone. Yet you defied the courts and were sentenced 15 months in prison.

“Now upon your incarceration, a group of protests under the #Freezuma banner broke out igniting the worst violence and criminality South Africa has seen since the end of apartheid.”

“These actions not only saw hundreds lose their lives and property be destroyed. But it affects will now be felt by many millions more.

“This affects the millions of hard working and peaceful South Africans many whom have suffered over the last year because of Covid.”

“Each day you defy the courts and stoke division you take a step backwards from Madiba’s vision for South Africa to prosper and for their not only be equitable political justice but also economic justice.

“If you still consider yourself a leader then please act and take responsibility like one.

“Agree to finish your appearance in front of the State Capture commission and equally you will have your days in court to contest the corruption charges alleged against you. Put the Nation first, PEACE IN SOUTHAFRICA.”

Naomi has never hidden her love for South Africa, as she has been speaking openly about it, and her close relationship with former president, Nelson Mandela.

Ara: I Would Love To Get Married Again

The popular Nigerian female drummer, Aralola Olumuyiwa professionally known as Ara, has expressed her desire to get married again.

In an interview she granted, she said that she was still open to relationship and wished to love and be loved again.

She said: “Yes, marriage is on the cards for me. I definitely would love to get married again. I definitely would want to love and be loved again. I’m very open.

“It’s just that when one has been scarred, one tends to see everyone as a scallywag and one tends to be careful. But that doesn’t mean there are no good guys around. There are definitely good guys around. So fingers crossed, let’s see how it goes.”

The drummer disclosed that she was into mentoring young female drummers so as to encourage them in the art.

She said: “There are many female talking drummers but I agree that none of them has been able to get to the level I attained. Being a pacesetter is a tall order for a female talking drummer or any female drummer at that.

“Whenever any female drummer is sighted, people send me their videos and pictures. I recently had a meeting with a lot of female drummers and it was beautiful. I decided to start mentoring them because many of them were reaching out to me.

“They had lots of things bothering them and they needed direction. We have had our first meeting and we are going to have another major one soon, where the drummers from different parts of the South-West and other parts of the country will come to Lagos. There are some female drummers as young as five years old.

“We need to encourage drummers and artists generally. We have not been given our rightful place and we are not being appreciated the way we should. It is a sad development but by God’s grace, I believe things would change. There is going to be a positive turnaround for everyone on our platform.”

On the issue of sexual harassment in the entertainment industry, she said she was lucky when she started, but some female artists exposed themselves to it.

She said: “I have heard victims talk about it. However, I would say I was lucky in that regard. When I started out, it was destiny and passion that drove me into entertainment. I had no ‘street sense’ whatsoever.

“There are instances where I would have fallen but because I was a genuinely naive person, I did not even know those were supposed to be traps. For me, it did not come as abuse or harassment. Along the line though, it started looking like it and I fought back. That is the reason I had a lot of issues at the end of the day.

“So, yes it (harassment) is very real. However, some females also offer themselves to these men in desperation to become famous.

“But, if you’ve got what it takes to be a star, you do not need to sell yourself or give your body to any man.”
